The building integrates and carries a balanced dialog with the local buildings, taking into account distinctive elements of the La Candelaria sector, which constitutes the historic center of the city.
At a urban scale, the expansion of the Colón Theater joins the buildings that make up the cultural pole of Bogotá (The Gold Theater, The Luis Angel Arango Library, The House of The Coin, The Bank of The Republic’s Hall of Temporary Expositions, The National General Archives among others), reinforcing the importance of this sector in the city’s architecture.
The recognition of two very valuable elements in the urban landscape defines the present volumetric proposal, modeled with the aim of obtaining spaces that facilities their own spatial contemplation. Thus, The El Cerro Monserrate, which guards the city, provides the background curtains to the stands located on the east roofing of the building, while the Dome of the Primada Cathedral, which stands out among the immediate urban silhouette, offers a focus of attention which sensibly enriches the visuals from the stands and the restaurant proposed in the northeastern corner.
The main access to the complex constitutes in itself and invitation to the pedestrian that travel through the city, offering a space opened to the public which versatility allows the development of itinerant presentations and communicating to the passers-by from the first moment the cultural nature of the building.
